What UAE E-Invoicing Changes for Your Business
Today most invoices are PDFs sent by email. Under e-invoicing, your accounting or billing software creates a structured invoice, your Accredited Service Provider (ASP) validates it and sends it to your customer's provider, and the tax data is reported to the FTA. You no longer simply email a PDF and treat that as the tax invoice.
The rollout covers business-to-business and business-to-government invoices first. It doesn't change VAT rates or VAT return dates, but because the FTA sees invoice data directly, differences between your invoices and your VAT returns become much easier to spot.
- Invoices issued in the UAE's structured format, not as PDFs or spreadsheets
- Every invoice sent and received through an Accredited Service Provider
- Customer and supplier TRNs and legal names checked on every invoice
- Supplier e-invoices arriving straight into your bookkeeping

Your E-Invoicing Deadlines
Your dates depend on your revenue. Dates have already moved once, so we check the latest Ministry of Finance position before planning your project.
| Who | Appoint an ASP by | E-invoicing mandatory from |
|---|---|---|
| Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more | 30 October 2026 | 1 January 2027 |
| Businesses with revenue below AED 50 million | 31 March 2027 | 1 July 2027 |
| Government entities | Per Ministry of Finance guidance | 1 October 2027 |
Most SMEs fall in the second group. Start at least three months before your ASP deadline so there is time to clean data and test.

How We Get You Ready, Step by Step
- Readiness checkWe look at how you invoice now, your software, your customer list and your volumes, and confirm which deadlines apply to you.
- Software and dataWe set up or tidy your Zoho Books, Xero or QuickBooks file, correct customer and supplier records and fix invoice templates.
- Choose your ASPWe compare providers that connect to your software, explain costs and help you appoint one before your deadline.
- Test and go liveWe send test invoices and credit notes, check what your customers receive, then switch over and watch the first month closely.
Choosing an Accredited Service Provider
Only providers accredited by the Ministry of Finance can exchange e-invoices and report them to the FTA. Several accounting platforms connect to one or more ASPs, so the right choice usually starts with the software you already use.
- Does it connect directly to your accounting software, or need manual uploads?
- How is it priced: per invoice, per month, or bundled with your software?
- Does it handle invoices you receive as well as those you send?
- What happens when an invoice is rejected, and who fixes it?
- Can it handle credit notes, foreign-currency invoices and multiple branches?

Data You Need to Clean Before Go-Live
Most rejected e-invoices come from poor master data, not from the technology. Fixing records once, before go-live, saves weeks of rejected invoices and unhappy customers afterwards.
- Customer and supplier legal names exactly as on their trade licence
- TRNs checked for every VAT-registered customer and supplier
- Full addresses, including emirate
- Item and service descriptions with the right VAT treatment
- Duplicate and inactive contacts merged or archived

E-Invoicing Mistakes to Avoid
- Waiting for the last month to appoint a provider, leaving no time to test
- Assuming PDF invoices emailed from your software already count as e-invoices
- Forgetting about invoices you receive from suppliers
- Testing only simple invoices, then discovering credit notes fail after go-live
- Leaving invoicing on spreadsheets that can't connect to any ASP

Frequently Asked Questions
When does e-invoicing become mandatory in the UAE?
For businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more, from 1 January 2027. For businesses below AED 50 million, from 1 July 2027, with an Accredited Service Provider appointed by 31 March 2027. Government entities follow from 1 October 2027. Check the Ministry of Finance for the latest dates, as they have changed before.
Is a PDF invoice an e-invoice?
No. An e-invoice is a structured electronic file in the UAE format, sent through an Accredited Service Provider. A PDF, a scan or an Excel file is not an e-invoice, even if your software emails it automatically.
Do I need new accounting software for e-invoicing?
Not necessarily. Many businesses already on Zoho Books, Xero or QuickBooks can connect to a provider. If you still invoice from Word or Excel, moving to accounting software is usually the first step.
Does e-invoicing change my VAT returns?
VAT rates and return deadlines stay the same. But the FTA receives invoice data directly, so your VAT returns need to match your e-invoices closely. Accurate monthly bookkeeping matters more than ever.
Can you set up e-invoicing if you don't do my bookkeeping?
Yes. E-invoicing setup is a one-off project with a fixed price. Many clients then move their monthly bookkeeping to us, but it isn't required.
